Upcoming Tastings Revealed!

We have a real live winemaker every Thursday in April and the beginnning of May. Taste the wines and take home a bottle (or a case) at a special discounted price. Tastings are free when a winemaker is present.

April 1st: Evelyne de Pontbriand from Domaine du Closel in Savennieres.
She will bring a nifty sparkling Savennieres (Chenin and Cabernet Franc), two different Savennieres, and an Anjou-Villages rouge.

April 8th: Julien Barbier from Champagne R&L Legras in Chouilly. Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs-- he's the man behind the 'Champagne Spring'.

April 15th: Erick Delille will share the new releases of Bandol Blanc and Bandol Rosé (and the old releases of Bandol Rouge) from Domaine Terrebrune.

April 22nd: Christine Campardieu will come all the way from Collioure to pour her wines for us from the reputable Domaine Tour Vieille. Collioure Blanc and Rouge, Banyuls, and special cuvees such as 'memoire (d'automnes)'-- a grenache gris "elevage d'abandon' and the Banyuls 'Vin de Meditation'- from a solera dating back to 1952.

April 29th: Phillipe Garrey will ride his scooter from Mercurey in Burgundy with the 2008 Mercurey Blanc and Rouge in a sidecar. We'll also open the 2007s to see which is better. Hint: They're both good!

May 6th: Didier Chaffardon pours the goods like his momma taught him. Anjou Blanc in a major way, and the aptly named "L'Incredule".

May 13th: Oooooh, I'm really excited about this one-- Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron comin' in hot from Sancerre. Seriously good Sancerre Rouge, Blanc, and Rose. We'll be tasting everything-- the regular cuvees and the reserve 'Les Romains' and 'Belle Dame'. Score.

After May 13th: Working on it...

Fun for all, and free. Come and buy lots of wine from us.

Spot Le Bordeaux

This week on Thursday March 25 at the boutique we'll play 'Spot Le Bordeaux'. The rules are simple: taste four wines without seeing the labels-- one of them is a real, honest-to-goodness bordeaux, the other three have similar styles or grapes or other tricky deceptions. Tell us which one is the real Bordeaux. If you're right, you win a prize. If you're wrong, you have to dance. We'll also take votes on which wine people like the best. The cost to play is 5 eurobucks.

Thursday 11 March at the Boutique: Chenin Blanc

Chenin is one of our favorite grapes. It's versatility is amazing-- it can be just about anything white wine can be: sparkling, dry, demi-sec, or sweet. Ageworthy or good in your glass right now. Join us this Thursday to taste a handful of our favorite chenin blancs-- Montlouis from Laurent Chatenay, rare Chinon Blanc from Domaine Lambert, and Coteaux-du-Loir from La Grapperie and Bellivière.

As always, 5 euros for the tasting and aperitif. 17h-21h. Bring your friends.

Far Out Burgundy

This week at the boutique-- Thursday March 4th
Far Out Burgundy- wines from the extremities, from places you never thought you'd go to. But we'll take you there to taste bottles from Bruno Clair in Marsannay at the top and Phillipe Garrey from Mercurey at the bottom.  That's top and bottom if you're looking at a map, of course.  We think they're both 'top'.

We do have a restaurant opening soon, by the way... We have all been waiting a long time- the end is in sight, but we don't have a date yet.  Stay tuned.
